Advertising that
respects the reader
Developer docs, blogs and tools are some of the most useful pages on the web, and some of the hardest to fund. Most ad networks pay for them by following readers around, so developers block the ads and the sites lose the income that keeps them free. boiid takes the other path: we look at the page, never the person.
Four rules we build by
Context over surveillance
A page about connection pooling tells us everything an ad needs to know. We never need to know who is reading it.
People over automation
A person approves every sponsor before it appears on someone's site, and again whenever its copy or targeting changes
Fair by default
Publishers keep 80% of what advertisers spend. Advertisers pay only for real, viewable impressions.
Small and fast
One widget under 1.7 KB, and an ad decision made in memory in under 2 ms. Nothing slows the page down.
boiid comes from boids, short for bird-oid objects
Boids are the simulated birds Craig Reynolds created in 1986. A flock of them needs no leader: each bird follows three simple local rules, and the flock emerges on its own. boiid follows the same three rules, with vectors instead of birds.
Alignment
Every page and every campaign becomes a vector. An ad serves only where the two point the same way, judged by the page's text, its topics and the packages it uses.
Separation
Ads keep their distance from the reader. No cookies, no profiles, no pop-ups, just native text ads, at most three per page, from a script under 1.7 KB.
Cohesion
When no paid ad fits, the slot can show the publisher's own sponsor link, such as their GitHub Sponsors page, so even unpaid views help the project
One honest line item
boiid keeps 20% of what advertisers spend. That covers matching, review, fraud filtering and payouts. We do not sell data, and there are no hidden fees for advertisers or publishers.
